LifeSeries: Playing the Background

You know, back in high school band, I played the trombone. With that instrument, not many lead parts come up.  We are forced to play a lot of those background parts.  Now you may say, “That sucks, I want those top parts”.  You will be correct, I wanted those parts.  However I had to accept the fact that the background parts are just as important.  Why do I mumble about this? Well look at your life.  If you believe in God, and Jesus Christ, you no longer play the lead parts.  He plays the lead.  We play the background.  It’s that simple, and I fear that our world is starting to all play the lead.  There is too much lead coming out, and less background.

You, the reader, listen up to me for a second.  Your life, it’s not your life you live anymore when you become saved. You are now in the image of Jesus, and you need to represent Him, and not yourself.  You cannot play that lead part any longer.  This is important in life because you need to realize that you are not in charge anymore, God is!  How can you fix this if you think you’re playing the lead?

Well, just step aside, and let God play the beautiful music that he’s been playing since the beginning.  Not to say yours is not beautiful, the background flows the music along.  You keep it sounding good.  Play the background.

LifeSeries: When Things Go Bad

I apologize for not posting in such a long time.  A lot has happened since I’ve last posted a blog for all of you to read.

Today, I want to continue with our LifeSeries, as the second post in the series comes out.  Today’s topic is “When Things Go Bad”.  What do you do when things go bad in life?  Do you freak out? Do you run away from your problem?  Or do you face it?  The importance of what you do when things go bad reflect your life in many ways.

In this event called life, we endure pain, suffering, challenges, as well as many obstacles we should not even have to face.  We try to blame our struggles on God, and while we can do that as much as we want….is that really what you need to do?  Is God the reason for it all?  Well, he puts you through tests of faith and patience.  But just because one thing goes bad, and in some cases, everything comes crashing down, we should not get angry.  There is no reason to be angry.  When life throws everything it has at you, you have to swing for the fences anyway.  Sure, you may miss, or foul the ball off, or maybe the pitch is to intense and you don’t even swing, but the important thing is: not to get angry.

When things go bad, rejoice.  Be happy.  Because even though everything may seem bad, in reality everything is fine. God is still good.  You are still alive.  And everything will be okay.

I want to leave you today with a Bible verse from Psalms 73:

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. (Psalm 73:26)

This post is super-awesome.

According to WordPress, this post is super-awesome as I am writing this.  So, what’s been going on?  Well, The next week of classes began here at FBBI, and I’ve been involved with a lot of stuff going on around the school.  First of all, I went to kinda like a Summer Camp for Special Kids in Special Education as well as Autistic guys and gals, well, its at a church up here at my school.  It was amazing. I spent practically the entire day there, from 9:45 am till about 4:30 pm. It makes you appreciate a lot of stuff, including life, and the things we complain about, well, it makes you just smile.  Yes, I’ve been with these kids before, I’ve seen them, spent time with them, however, I’ve never done what I did that Monday.

Secondly, I spent more time with more people like the ones at the academy I went to Monday on Tuesday night, by going to a real camp for these guys called, “Camp Joy”.  They did a talent show…and I must say, I won’t ever forget it.  Ever!  I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.  It was just, man, I don’t know the words for it.  They are indescribable.

Well, that’s what’s been going on in my life.

I’ll have another “LifeSeries” post later this week.

LifeSeries: One Shot, Many Opportunities.

To begin this weekly series, “LifeSeries”, a blog collection of posts that talk about life, and what kind of aspects we as Christians should look at life.

Today on the very first post, we’ll talk about something we frequently forget in life.  We have one shot at it. Ouch.  Hurts, right?  Well it should.  I mean really, after thinking about it, you can see many aspects of our life we have one shot at.  One shot at our first kiss, one shot at raising our kids, one shot at a speech, one shot at messages and sermons for pastors.  It’s a one shot world.  Well, that is until you look at salvation.  Yes, we only have one shot at making our decision.  We’re eternally secure.  But if we deny the spirit that one time, he’ll convict us.  God gives us so many opportunities in life for our “one shot”, that we never actually take our shot.  It’s like we are conservative to take our shot, like theres something better lurking to take it at.  Really, there are many things we do that to.  Relationships, we ignore the one that could be the one because we think there is something better, we decline a job because theres one with better pay in the air, and then when that plan fails, you don’t have the opportunity God provided for you.

You then proceed to blame God for the mistake you made.

I’ve got news for you, you made the choice, not God.

To sum it up, take your one shot when its available to you.  Yes, God will then make another one, but when his will is his will, and its not for you to change.  You can’t change it.  It’s what you were meant to be here for.  Your one shot is not meant to be conserved, its meant to be used when God tells you to.  Now, you may think, “Well how can I know when God wants me to use it?”  Well, first of all pray. It never hurts to pray to God and cast your burdens on Him, because he will for sure help you out.  Second of all, live.  Yeah, its simple, just live.  You have to live your life, you know?  God didn’t give it to you for you to not live it out.  He gave it to you for you to simply live.

Take your shots, no matter the circumstance.

Summatime.

Since it's summertime, I figure I'd answer one of the best questions asked during this time of year.

My Favorite Summer Memory.

There are tons of memories for me. I think the last two trips to Disney World (06, 07) were amazing. Next year in September, I could be making my return back to childhood for me. It has been 2 years since my last visit, and 3 since my last vacation for a week there. I went for one day in 2008, to hang out with my friend from podcasting. Anyways, what makes a Disney vacation special? Well most people put it off saying its for kids. Well, once you walk into Magic Kingdom, you realize you have turned into a kid. One look down Main Street towards Cinderella Castle and your dreams have come alive. It's a truly remarkable experience for anyone. If you haven't been, I encourage you too!

Have a nice summer! I'll post again tomorrow!

Movie Review: Toy Story 3

I anticipated this movie big time.

Everyday on my Facebook, I would post something to contain my excitement, and when I was waiting in line to walk in for the movie, it hit me: what if it let me down? What if it was just another 3rd sequel that fails? I’m here to tell you that Toy Story 3 is by far one of the best movies ever. So none of that applied. It was a amazing.

The Pixar Short, “Day and Night”: The short for the film was very awesome. Only way to put it. It had a 2D with 3D feel in animation, that still shows that Pixar can work without voice in a short film. In my opinion, it was one of the best shorts in Pixar’s history. Honestly, it could the be the best for me. “Lifted” was also very good.

The Animation: The very first Pixar short if you can remember was “Tin Toy”, or one of the first. The short was very different from what you have now. The short for TS3 (Toy Story 3) can show how much they’ve improved since then. And the Thursday before the day I saw it, I watched the first 2 films, and the first thing I noticed from the first 2, were the animation. They have really come a very long way in producing these films. The animation for the third film was ultimately the best. It really brought Pixar’s best out of the box.

The Story: The story was well thought out. I’m not saying much about the story, because I don’t want to spoil any. Just be ready for anything. It had so much emotion in the story, so much laughter, so much stuff!

The Music: Randy Newman again brings out the best in his music. As old as that man is, he brought the beast in himself out for one last Toy Story. The song at the end of the movie, “We Belong Together”, is sort of the theme for the movie. Like “You Got a Friend in Me” for TS1, “When She Loved Me” for TS2, this is the song for the movie. The highlights of the film score really shine towards the end. It’s sort of a emotional high for you band/orchestra freaks out there like myself. Get ready, it will take your breath away.

My Opinion: Okay, so this will be the last time I say anything about this movie. What can I say? I saw it in IMAX 3D on Friday, seeing it on those massive screens. Let me be the first to say, seeing it in IMAX will make you go “wow”. I have never seen a film quite like that. It had so much emotion. I’ve honestly, NEVER seen a movie with that much emotion in it. EVER. The comedy factor in it also gave it just a feel to it that only us teens, young adults, and adults can understand. Not many kids will understand it. If you haven’t seen TS1 or TS2, I recommend finding those 2 before you watch the third. It will help you out a lot. Again, in the emotion point of view, it was pure magic. I found myself sitting there, in the movie with these toys. The whole time I’nm thinking about when I left for college, what I was leaving behind, who I was leaving behind. It will capture your heart unlike any movie you have ever seen. Toy Story 3 will forever in my opinion be the best in the series. Yes, you have the epic first one, the okay second one, but we’ve waited so long for this one, it just made everything so real. Lee Unkrich, the director for the third one, brought an unparalleled magic to the screen, such a compelling story that only we, the Toy Story fans could enjoy.

If you haven’t seen Toy Story 3 yet, go now. It is in my opinion, one of the best movies ever. A sequel to a sequel that actually works. A story of a boy turned adult with a choice to make. It has an emotion unlike any other. I almost, well, I shed one tear. If you grew up with these toys, this story of Andy, you may cry. Awesome. Speechless. Go see Toy Story 3, it’s money well spent.

The Verdict: Out of 5 Stars, this film gets 10.

Reflecting on the Toys.

Before the epic final saga of Toy Story on Friday, I would like some time to reflect back on the series that is and will forever be, Toy Story. This set of movies, this set right here is my favorite movies of all time. From the opening credits of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” in the first movie, to the end of the movie ahead of us, it is my favorite movies. Ever!

Why am I writing a post only about the toys? Well, we all as kids grew up imagining these toys coming alive when we played with them. We were all an Andy at one point in our lives, playing with everything, we had our favorite. When Woody and Buzz made their debuts, it made us wonder…do they really talk like that? No, not with Tim Allen (Buzz) or Tom Hanks (Woody), but with their own voice. These movies gave us an imagination. The minds at Pixar captured something we couldn’t. We all remember Andy, and what a warm heart and passion for his toys he had. What an awesome story to bring Woody and Buzz together to become best friends. I will never forget the famous words of Randy Newman’s song, “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”, “And as the years go by, our friendship will never die!”. These movies will forever live in our hearts. Toy Story is one of the greatest series of all time, for me, up there with Star Wars.

I cannot promise I won’t shed a tear when it’s all over.

Thank you Disney, thank you Pixar, for giving us the story of this group of toys and a boy who loved them so much.

I’m Looking Forward Too _______

Well, school for high schoolers is coming to an end in the coming weeks, some are already out, colleges are out, I’m gonna end next week…and this raises the question, what is there to look forward to?

Well, for me, I’m looking forward to teaching the high schoolers at the church I’m helping out at. That’s next week, as well as finishing school for the quarter. I’m also looking forward to Toy Story 3 that first week I’m out, which is June 18. Haha, yeah I am a nerd, and you can’t judge me. Ums, I’m looking forward to unpacking this stuff back home I guess? This stuff has gotten annoying to pack up. I am not bringing this much back on July 5th. I’ll bring back much much less. So, what else is there to look forward too? Well, just what God is gonna do in my life, as well as you the reader, young or old. I think God’s working in many different people right now, and maybe a revolution can get started!!

What are you looking forward too?

Another Day, Another Week, Another Month, Another Year.

As this week comes to a close, tomorrow is my Birthday (May 28). I wanted to share some thoughts with you, here on this special day. A thought of encouragement in looking at your life right now, and what’s going on. As well as in my life, and what’s going on and what’s coming up. Man how this 19th Birthday came up quick! I looked at the calendar and boy how shocked I was. Last week at this time, I was getting my exegesis finished. Anyways, I wanted to talk about how quick life can change. How quick God can make your life so awesome into a life you have wanted to avoid. A life no one really wants to be in, you know? A “hard knock” life, so to speak.

The title of this post really captures how quick life goes. After today, it’ll be tomorrow. After Saturday, it will have been a week. When June comes, it will be a month. When 2011 comes, it will be a year. Life here on God’s planet is so important. So many of us are right now reading this post, when you could be doing something that could change your life. FOREVER. So, continue reading this last few sentences. Time flies so fast, if you haven’t noticed. If you’ve got some things you want to do in life, you best do them now, before you go to your eternal home. Whether that be change someone elses life, I have no clue. You must accomplish these things now, and get to working. God is at the controls. He can change your life to get you focused when you get out of hand.

Are you accomplishing your dream?

really….are you?

Prove it.

If no proof, go.

Go accomplish your dream, before it’s too late.
